The Kyrgyz were nomads for over 3000 years and achieved to keep all their traditions to this day! "Mountains are the house of nomads. This is a place where they go from one pasture to another to raise the cattle. The Kyrgyz were settled only in the late 20 th century. Some of them live in the mountains; following the ancient traditions ...
The nomads have special dwellings called as yurts. They started to live in them 2500 years ago. It has a very unique structure. They are made without a single nail. Yurts have a wooden frame enclosed with a felt cover. The best artist is able to make a yurt for 25 days. But it can be used for 40 years. It takes people to build a yurt within one hour. Nomads were able to carry it from place to place using only 3 horses.
The yurt is divided into two parts. They are the women side and the men side. The left part belongs to the man. It is usually stored weapons, horse trappings, whips. The women keep kitchen pottery, home accessories, tableware, as well as their jewels and ornaments on the right side. Here you can also see a wall made of reeds, which serves as a partition between the kitchen and the main part of the yurt. There is a special place in the yurt which is located opposite the door and called as torus. This is the most worthy part of the yurt esteemed only for respected people. Women keep here blankets and rugs, made by themselves. All of them are stacked on top of each other in a special order. Nobody is allowed to use them, because it is a material sign of wealth.
The nomads lived in small villages which are called as ails. There used to be about 80 and 100 tents in this place.
