Geography
The area of Kyrgyzstan is about 198,500 square kilometers. There are over 5 million people in Kyrgyzstan. Over 93% of the country is mountainous and a quarter of it is covered by forests. Our country is proud of its beautiful mountains, beautiful lakes and wonderful towns and villages, which is full of culture and history. Kyrgyzstan is located on the Silk Road.
Flora and Fauna
Kyrgyzstan is rich in its variety of flora and fauna. We have about 80 species of mammals, 330 species of birds, 50 species of fish and about 30 different species of reptiles. For example, we have the argali, snow leopard, bears, badgers, camels, eagles, foxes, hawks, marmots, wolves and yaks.
People of Kyrgyzstan
The people in Kyrgyzstan are generous and hospitable. Kyrgyz people say that all guests are sent by God. That is why they are so friendly to foreigners. They always are interested to know: «where you are from?», «what is about your family?», as well as about the places which you already visited. If you go even to a remote yurt found somewhere in the mountains, then the owners will always be happy to advise you some food and tea. Kyrgyz keep all their traditions and customs of their nomad ancestors. People esteem the nature. You can fully enjoy our nature, which has retained its pristine form.
Capital
The capital of Kyrgyzstan is Bishkek which became the capital in 1978. There are about 130 years to Bishkek. It is one of the greenest cities in Central Asia. Kyrgyzstan received its independence on Aug. 31, 1991, now the Kyrgyz people always celebrate this day as a national holiday i.e. Independence Day.
